About Beta Kappa
The Beta Kappa chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha, Latin Sorority, Inc. was established on the campus of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County on July 17th, 1999 by our Founding Sisters known as the "Sweet n Sassy Six." Upon the chapter's establishment, Lambda Theta Alpha became the first of any Latin Greek-lettered organization to be chartered in the Baltimore area and additionally founded UMBC's Multicultural Greek Council, a body of Greek-lettered organizations celebrating UMBC's diverse community. Beta Kappa sisters have gone on to pursue masters and doctorate degrees, as well as representing the chapter on regional and national levels. As a result of their efforts, they brought home numerous accolades for their contributions to the sisterhood. Our chapter also boasts a diverse legacy of sisters from different ethnic, socioeconomic and academic backgrounds. The chapter continues its pursuit to empower the Universal Woman and create a space for political, cultural, and social awareness on the campus of UMBC and beyond.
